The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has postponed to Thursday, December 8 elections at Jaman North Constituency.
The exercise in Afram Plains North Constituency has also been extended by five hours.
These were announced by the Director of Electoral Services at the Commission, Samuel Tetteh, immediately after close of general polls on Wednesday.
The exercise in the Brong Ahafo Region constituency was halted on Wednesday as a result of disagreement between National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) representatives over the voters’ register.
The agents of the ruling party had protested that the register was bloated.
The issue was resolved midday Wednesday but the Commission said the security situation could not guarantee the safe distribution of voting materials to all 92 polling stations.
Therefore, registered voters are expected to be at their respective polling stations between 7:00 am and 5:00pm to vote.
The decision was reached in consultation with the District Security Council.
In Afram Plains North in the Eastern Region, logistics did not reach the Dwarf Island in time after being airlifted.
“It took at least two hours for the materials to be distributed,” Mr Tetteh said.
“Following a review of the situation…the Commission has decided to extend voting by five hours,” he announced.
Provision has been made for lights to be made available to enable successful closure of polls at 10:00pm.
