The flag-bearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has said the Electoral Commission must reimburse the party for the cost it incurred when the party’s presidential candidate was nearly disqualified from contesting this year’s polls.
She also condemned the Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Charlotte Osei, saying “she has to be made to pay for the huge cost we have incurred as a result of our disqualification.”
The condemnation was made on Adaars FM 107.7 at Kintampo when the flag bearer, her running mate, Mr Kojo Mensah Sosu and the General Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong made a stop over at the studio on their final leg of their Brong Ahafo campaign tour.
The interaction at the studio covered the disqualification of the NDP by the EC on October 10, 2016, the strides the party had made to catch up with campaigning when the other political parties had been campaigning all the time and their manifesto launch.
Progressive steps
Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings said when the NDP was disqualified, the subsequent Supreme Court ruling gave the party the opportunity to make corrections to a signatory in Nanumba South on its forms.
Thereafter, the EC further surprised them by disputing the signatures of some 33 others.
The NDP took the pain to call all the disqualified signatories to make the necessary corrections.
To re-enforce their claims and the signatories, they mobilised all those who signed all over the country to Accra.
She said when they asked the EC if they could submit the forms when they finished with the corrections, the commissioner said she would receive them at her set time.
When they finally got to present their corrected forms, Mrs Osei told them that they should not have gone through the trouble of presenting all the people at her office.
Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings expressed frustration at the stress they had gone through just because of the whims of the EC, saying “the woman must reimburse the party for the cost.”
She also used the opportunity to endorse her parliamentary candidate for the Kintampo seat, Nana Kwesi Sarpong.
