Mr Hassan Ayariga, the Presidential nominee of the All People’s Congress (APC) and nine others are out of the December 7 presidential race.
The others are Dr Nana Agyenim Boateng, United Front Party (UFP); Mr Kofi Akpaloo, Independent People’s Party (IPP); Mr Kwabena Adjei, Reformed Patriotic Democrat (RPD); and Mr Akwasi Addai Odike, United People’s Party (UPP).
The rest are Dr Henry Lartey, Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP); Madam Akua Donkor, Ghana Freedom Party (GFP); Mr Thomas Nii Arko Ward-Brew, Democratic People’s Party (DPP); Warrant Officer Class One (WO1)Richard Nison Tetteh, United Development System Party (UDSP) and an independent aspirant Mr Asiedu K. Walker.
Making the announcement at the balloting for slots for qualified presidential aspirants in Accra on Wednesday, Mrs Charlotte Osei, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) explained that in line with the directive of the Supreme Court, the Commission re-opened the filing of nominations for the 13 disqualified presidential aspirants from Monday, November 7 to Tuesday, November 8.
She said by the close of the day on Tuesday, the EC received 10 amended nomination forms from 10 presidential aspirants.
Mrs Osei said Mr Adjei withdrew his papers before the close of nomination as well as Mr Odike, UPP.
She said however, Mr Ward-Brew, DPP and WO1 Tetteh, the UDSP failed to re-submit their nomination forms.
The EC Chair said Mr Ayariga, APC, Mr Akpaloo, IPP, Dr Agyenim Boating, UFP, Madam Akua Donkor, GFP, Dr Lartey, GCPP, and Mr Asiedu Walker, could not meet the constitutional requirements of the Public Elections Regulations 2016 (CI 94), hence their disqualification from the December 7 presidential race.
Of all the10 aspirants, she said those who were able to sail through were Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Progressive People’s Party (PPP); Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, National Democratic Party (NDP); and Dr Edward N. Mahama, People’s National Convention (PNC).
At the close of filing of nominations on September 30, 17 presidential aspirants filed to contest the December 7 election out of which the incumbent President John Dramatic Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, New Patriotic Party (NPP); Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah, an independent candidate received approval on October 10.
This brings the total number of qualified presidential aspirants for the December 7 polls to seven.
At the end of the balloting, Mr Greenstreet of the CPP had the first slot on the ballot paper, followed by the Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, NDP.
President Mahama, NDC and Nana Akufo-Addo, NPP picked the third and fifth positions, which also corresponded with that of their parliamentary candidates.
The PPP’s Dr Nduom and Dr Edward Mahama, occupy the fourth and sixth positions, with the independent, Mr Osei Yeboah taking the seventh.
