Residents of Dzita, a fishing community in the Keta municipality of the Volta region have hit the streets in protest against reported incidents of serial killings in the area.
The residents say they wake up to the sight of one dead body or other at the outskirt of the community and along the shore in recent times.
The latest incident occurred last Monday, when a body of a woman was found along the shore, during a search for a carpenter who went missing in the area.
This has left residents in a state of fear and anxiety.
Mr. Brass Dedzo, Assembly member for Dzita told Starr News that the situation has become very alarming as residents go about their daily activities in fear.
He indicated that, several reports to the police in the area have not yielded any result, hence their resort to the peaceful protest to draw the attention of the authorities to come to their aid.
“We are a fishing and farming community, formerly we go alone to ply our trade but now you cannot go alone, you have to gone in groups. So we’re appealing to the government to improve security in the area.”
