It was an unusual spectacle at the Accra International Conference Centre Wednesday when the MC of a program had to use his phone to provide light for no less a person than Jon Benjamin to address an audience of eminent personalities after the whole auditorium was plunged into darkness.
Barely had John Benjamin begun his address when power outage popularly called ‘dumsor’ struck, leaving the whole auditorium in complete darkness.
After waiting for several minutes for power to be restored but without success, the MC Samson Lardy Anyenini had to use his phone to provide light for Jon Benjamin to address the audience which include the Chief Justice Georgina Wood, EC Chair Charlotte Osei and several other eminent personalities.
The program was the launch of the 3rd edition of the manual on election adjudication in Ghana. However, the headlines will not be the content of the steps being taken in order to ensure a smooth election adjudication in the likely event of an election dispute.
What will occupy the minds of many will be how the auditorium was plunged into darkness leaving the organisers stranded.
Joy News reporter Beatrice Adu said the MC had to improvise; his phone came to the rescue. One after the other, the eminent persons took turns to address the audience with the MC still pointing his phone at the scripts of the resource persons just to provide light.
