Nana Addo charges Energy Minister-designate to tackle dumsor with full force and ensure it remains in the past.
President Nana Addo’s determination to put an end to dumsor was manifested during his appointment of his Minister-designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko who was his policy adviser for the 2016 election campaign.
Nana Addo on Tuesday, named 13 persons as ministers-designate for various portfolios, to serve in his government. During his announcement, the President also revealed some changes which included the reinstatement of the role of a Senor Minister -a role which was present under the Kufuor administration. He also merged the Ministries of Power and Petroleum under the Ministry of Energy and announced Boakye Agyarko as the head.
Osarfo Marfo whom Nana Addo described as the most successful finance minster in Ghana’s history, was appointed by the President to take the role of the Senior minister.
While nominating the Minister for Energy, the President took out time to dwell on the need to completely eradicate the much dreaded power crisis. Nana Addo charges Energy Minister-designate to tackle the electricity problem with full force and ensure it remains in the past.
Dumsor, the popular name for the electricity crisis in the country, has been an unwelcome and overstayed visitor in Ghana for a period of four years. In December 2015, government increased the cost of electricity tariffs and introduced new taxes in the petroleum sector in a bid to improve power generation, all to no avail.
In the course of his campaign for the 2016 election, President Nana Addo had promised on several occasions, to put an end to the discomforting situation, which he said the Mahama administration had failed to accomplish. Bearing in mind his promise to Ghanaians, Nana Addo in a charge to the Minister-designate for Energy, urged him to work to ensure that the power crisis does not emerge again, especially under his administration.
“We must find a way to be able to have a reliable supply of energy for our industries and enterprises and affordable for our consumers,” he told Mr. Agyarko.
