Peace ambassador for the 2016 general elections Irbard Ibrahim has described as “wrong” the carrying of a dummy coffin bearing the posters of main opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo during the governing National Democratic Congress’ manifesto launch in Sunyani on Saturday September 17.
“In a campaign era of ratios, allegories and symbolisms, it is important to take note of the limits to which such political jests can go, and wishing any flag bearer dead is way above the tolerable threshold of wholesome politicking,” the security analyst said in a statement.
In view of this, Mr Ibrahim has encouraged healthy political debate to sway the general electorate to the right direction and choice, rather than “such acts that reduce a critical national election like this one to student politics”.
“I urge all political parties to avoid the use of all forms of provocative language including the reverberating mantra ‘Incompetent Mahama’ and the cliché ‘Dictatorial Nana Addo’” he added.
A group called The Movement for Kingdom Image (MFKI), has also condemned the act describing it as barbaric in modern times.
