DPP Sues EC To Postpone December 7 Elections

Flagbearer of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP),Thomas Nuako Ward-Brew has sued the Electoral Commission (EC) for disqualifying him from the presidential race.

He is praying an Accra High Court to postpone the December 7 general elections if he is not allowed to rectify the errors on his nomination forms.

The Electoral Commission rejected Mr. Ward-Brew’s nomination forms for not providing the necessary particulars on his nomination forms.

The Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson, Charlotte Osei among other things explained that, the Commission noticed the candidate did not provide his voter ID number therefore was unable to ascertain whether he [Ward Brew] is a registered voter and therefore eligible for the office of President.

But the DPP candidate said he was not in the country when the Supreme Court ordered the EC to allow all 13 disqualified candidate to re-submit their nomination after the election managment body’s challenge of a High Court ruling failed.

He explained that, he was out of Ghana on an international assignment thus did not hear about the ruling of the Supreme Court.

Mr. Ward-Brew is thus appealing to the court to order the EC to extend the time of submission of nomination forms.

Also, due to the continuous litigation, the presidential hopeful said the time for campaign should be extended to enable the flagbearers who were disqualified sell their message.
