DORMAA Municipal Assembly (DMA) in the Brong Ahafo Region has failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM).
The position was keenly contested between Nicholas Ntow and Dominic Yeboah.
However, both failed to get the required two-third votes to be elected as the Presiding Member after three rounds of voting.
The assembly has in the next ten days to conduct a fresh election to elect a PM.
Speaking to the media, Dormaa Municipal Electoral Commission, Christian Offei Boafo, admonished the assembly members to ensure that a Presiding Member (PM) is elected in the next elections.
He noted that without a PM, the president’s nominee as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) cannot be confirmed.
This, he said, will affect the running of the assembly.
“We tried to cast the votes three conservative times but no winner emerged. By law we are to come in the next ten days to conduct another election to see if we can elect a presiding member. Everything is done according to time. Very soon they will announce DCEs and MCEs and by that we must get a presiding member. I think they must come into a consensus to get a presiding member,” Mr. Boafo noted.
