Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has advised the people of the Mamprusi community not to vote on tribal lines but competence of contesting candidates.
He said the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) believed in inclusiveness and urged those preaching tribal politics in the area to stop.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the running mate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer Nana Akufo-Addo, who is a Mamprusi is alleged to be campaigning on tribal lines in the area but according to Mr Amissah-Arthur, such politics is bad.
The Vice President said this when he addressed a rally at Nalerigu in the Gambaga-Nalerigu constituency as part of his tour of the Northern Region.
“This election is an election in which the needs of the people are provided; it’s an election which is not about personality, it’s not where you come from because if your only point is that you come from Mamprugu and therefore they should vote for you, what happens when you go to Damango? You can’t say the same thing so (your message) must be something better, more powerful than where you come from because if only the people of Mumprugu will vote for you and the rest of the country doesn’t then you are left as an orphan in Mumprugu” he stated.
Mr Amissah-Arthur said the NDC has the right message for the electorate.
“You must be part of the great things that are happening. You must be part of the development of this country, you must be part of the roads that you see, schools, hospitals everything that is going on in this country that is good, you must be part of it so that is the message. I think we have a powerful message, a message of development for all the people that this country must move on together, that people must better themselves every year and we can see improvement in their lives so that this country can go forward. We have come not as people who come from this area but as part of the big enterprise called Ghana that we are all part of that we should all benefit from…” he said.
