Chiefs of Akwamu in the Eastern region have asked the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to pay attention to comments by the Acting President of Akwamu Traditional Council, Osuogyasonu Yaw Boadu I that the chiefs will spiritually kill his electoral chances.
Osuogyasonu Yaw Boadu I has promised a landslide victory for President John Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7 general elections because the chiefs would spiritually cripple his main opponent Nana Akufo-Addo.
According to him, on voting day, people will not find the flagbearer of the NPP on the ballot paper because they will make his name and photo disappear spiritually so the electorate do not see it and vote for him.
“We are with JM and we assure him that, as we visit our black room for the sacred ritual, we are going to pour libation to delete the picture of the NPP flagbearer from the ballot paper so that come December those who decide to vote for him do not even find him. The only image they will see will be that of John Mahama” he stressed.
However, Krontihene of the area Nana Akowuah who spoke on behalf of the Akwamu chiefs believe that their colleague chief was over enthused and hence made those comments.
According to him, chiefs in the area have distanced itself from what he described as unpleasant comments made by the chief.
“When President Mahama visited this region, something happened. I want you to know that Nana Addo is from Akwamu and can even become a chief if he wants to and so I want to tell Nana Addo not to pay attention to what my colleague chief said because he can’t decide for us and he doesn’t have any power to remove Nana’s name from the ballot paper.
“I’m sure he made those unpleasant comments out of over excitement so please don’t take it serious. I am standing on behalf of all of you here in Akwamu and make it clear that my people and I will vote for you (Nana Addo)” he declared.
Nana Akowuah made this known when Nana Akufo-Addo visited the area as part of his campaign tour and called on him at his palace.
He also urged Nana Addo to help revive Akosombo Text
Nana Addo on his part assured them that when he comes to power he will see to it that Juapong and Akosombo textiles are revived in order to create employment for the people.
