Chairman of Division One League Board (DOLB), Mr. Owoahene Acheampong, has made a passionate appeal to headline sponsors of the Division One League, GN Bank, not to withdraw their sponsorship of the league after the latter completed the final payment of GH¢ 2.1 million sponsorship deal last week Friday.
GN Bank as part of its efforts to promote the second tier league and also reach out to many Ghanaians reaffirmed their contract with the of Division One League Board over the weekend with the payment of GH¢793,500 which forms part of the third and final tranche of payments since taking over three seasons ago.
Many have questioned the commitment of GN Bank to continue with the sponsorship deal when it elapses this year after the qualification of Elmina Sharks, a club owned by Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who doubles as the President of Groupe Nduom.
Receiving the cheque, DOL Board Chairman, Mr. Owuahene Acheampong, thanked GN Bank and urged them not to end their marriage with DOL as their union has been beneficial to both parties.
“We know this is the final tranche of the sponsorship but we urge you not to discontinue this marriage as both parties have benefited immensely,” he noted.
Mr. Owuahene, who will be spearheading a grueling 48-team tournament, which will be honoured in three zones, said it will be disappointing to see GN Bank withdraw their sponsorship which he described as “life saving for the teams.”
“We trust that you will exercise the option of renewal so that we will still have GN Bank as our sponsors because we have been very happy with our relationship with your brand, ” he added.
“Yes, I will encourage them to, in the sense that they have brought life, they have injected life into this league and I think without GN Bank, the clubs will struggle to play. Is like you have tasted small glory and then that glory is taken away.”
The DOLB has slated February, 10th, 2017 as the start date for the 2016/17 Division One League with former Premier League campaigners- New Edubiase, Techiman City- and Hasaacas joining to compete in the new season.
