Development Expert and Chief Executive Officer of Dzine Dzakuma, Dzinedzormi Dzakuma has bemoaned the lack of regulations that has resulted in the flooding of the Ghanaian market with cheap and inferior fabrics from Asia and other parts of the world.
She has expressed worry over the country’s clothing deficit and akin it to the reasons why Ghana is continuously seen as a destination for dumping second hand clothing.
According to Mrs. Dzakuma, most of her clientele are not satisfied with the sort of cloths done here in Ghana hence the rise in appetite for foreign clothing and fabrics.
Speaking to Winifred Ampiaw, host of the CEO’s Chair on Business Television Africa (BTA), Dzinedzormi Dzakuma, said though the country is not doing badly in the area of entrepreneurship, she was concerned that the business aspect of entrepreneurship is not being handled properly.
She attributed this phenomenon to the fact that most Ghanaians do not plan before going into such ventures. Reiterating that being an entrepreneur goes beyond just producing products.
Development Expert stated that Ghanaian entrepreneurs should make it a point to have a definite plan when starting their business, adding that, getting a consultant to guide the business is a plus to any serious minded entrepreneur.
“When it comes to our educational system especially the BECE; it has failed to live up to expectation, because most of the student who have been through the system cannot start something on their own” She emphasized.
She has charged stakeholders in the educational sector to take a second look at the curricula which is theoretically centered than practical. She also noted that, the Ghanaian educational system should be demystified for the citizenry to be made aware that, countries that have made progress in developing their economies, did so while giving equal attention to both artisans and the academia.
“Contrary to developing nations, developed countries have attained such high economic status by giving both blue coloured and white coloured jobs equal priority”. She envisaged that, a day would come when managers of the economy and Ghanaians as people would place high premium on people who go into carpentry, painting, fashion amongst others.
Notwithstanding some progress made by successive government in the development of the youth, she re-echoed statements made by notable citizens over implementing policies which would ensure the Ghanaian youth is at the same wave length as their counterparts in the developed world.
Chief Executive Officer of Dzine Dzakuma, Dzinedzormi Dzakuma, was of the view that, some of the step to be taken to inculcate the interest of entrepreneurship and self-reliance in the youth is to ensure courses offered in higher learning institutions are changed to suit the demands of the time.
She also urged government to look into policies that would make doing business in Ghana less cumbersome.
