INMATES at Ankaful Prison in Cape Coast, the Central regional capital, have embarked on a demonstration against prison authorities over the poor quality of foods they are served.
According to the inmates, they are used for hard labour but are fed non-nutritious meals.
They also claimed that their relatives are prevented by prison authorities from visiting and giving them food prepared from home, a situation that has infuriated the prisoners.
According to media reports, prison authorities alleged that foods brought to the inmates by their families were often laced with marijuana, hence their refusal to allow inmates to be served those foods.
They have, thus appealed to the authorities to allow their relatives bring food to them at the prison facility.
