NDC Communicator, Ernest Brogya Genfi has implored religious leaders to declare a national day of prayer to avert any future tragic occurrences.
Addressing these worrisome incidents on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Brogya Genfi noted that the nation deserves to pray for the atonement of any possible “sin we have committed”.
He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the rampant accidents have become a major concern to the country and wondered why several lives are being claimed in recent times.
The administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been characterized by unfortunate incidents including suicide and road accidents.
Before the 100 days of assessment of Akufo-Addo’s administration, reports about some youth in the country claiming their own lives among other suicide cases have been a matter of worry to the entire nation.
First was a KNUST student who allegedly hanged herself, followed by another student of the University of Ghana believed to have also committed suicide by falling over her balcony on the campus.
Four final year trainee nurses of the Tanoso Community Health Nursing Traning College were also involved in a ghastly road accident on Saturday, March 11.
It is in this respect that he believes offering prayers for the forgiveness of any wrongdoing the nation might have committed against God would help to prevent further occurrences.
He also called on the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) to heighten education on the causes, effects and prevention of road accidents to address the issue.
Also touching on the subject on Kokrokoo, James Kwabena Bomfeh, affectionately called Kabila, asked the road authorities and contractors to take a critical look at Ghana’s roads.
He bemoaned the inappropriate construction of road ramps at wrong places coupled with other practices by vehicle drivers which lead to some of these accidents.
He attributed some of the road accidents to the pressures on mass transport vehicle drivers to make more sales by their owners, the long delays in issuing driver’s licence, over-speeding and overtaking among others, and so called on the entire citizenry to be careful when plying the roads.
