There have been series of updates on the sad report of a Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) student who took her own life by hanging herself.
Different reports gotten on the KNUST suicide have indicated that late Adwoa Agarkwa Ayimadu killed herself following rumors her boyfriend is going out with another lady on campus. This is contrary to reports that she took her life because she failed a course in her end of semester examinations, which angered her parents. [See Full Story]
However, the university authorities had countered the latter, as the university Academic Examination Board said the deceased had passed every examination. This then gave rise to further investigation on the matter.
Confirming the recent report, close friends of the deceased said there had been some misunderstanding between late Adwoa and her ex boyfriend. An unnamed friend revealed that late Adwoa was really depressed over rumours that her boyfriend was seeing another girl.
It was also revealed that the late MP’s daughter used to assist the guy in question in so many ways, which best explained her reason for being depressed. Close friends of the diseases have called for the arrest of her ex boyfriend.
18-year-old Adwoa Agarkwa Anyimadu-Antwi who happens to be the daughter of Hon. Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, MP for Asante Akim Central constituency took her own life by hanging herself with a rope over a ceiling fan on February 24, 2017. The incident took place at the Independence Hall, one of the hostels on the university campus.
What saddens many as well as raised more questions, was the letter said to be found on her bed which read; “sorry mummy and daddy for not been the girl you want me to be”. The letter which presented an absolute suicidal case to the public, brought many to tears, having presented a very pathetic image of a depressed young girl.
Her death had come as a shock to her father to her father who had wondered why his daughter would take her life; amid all the provisions, love and support shown her by her family.
Late Adwoa was buried on March 4, at her home town of Petransa near Konongo in the Ashanti Region. Among personalities who attended the funeral were the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Bekwai, Hon. Joe Osei Owusu, former Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Sampson Kwaku Boafo some MPs in the region and officials of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
