Leading French sports equipment and sportswear company, Decathlon Ghana, at the weekend presented sportswear to all four finalists at this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) basketball competition held in Accra.
Items given out included 200 basketballs and some quantity sports shoes.
The move also formed part of Decathlon Ghana plans to make lesser-known sports very accessible in the country.
In an interview with Today Sports, Country Manager for Decathlon Ghana, Kwasi Tabury, said his outfit decided to be part of this year’s UPAC championship in order to make sporting wears accessible to everybody.
“Making sportswear’s accessible and affordable to every person irrespective age, sex or creed is at the core of what Decathlon stands for,” he said.
According to him, Decathlon products match up with best sports kits like Adidas and Nike, adding that “we have come to live with the indigenous people with top quality products.’
Mr. Tabury assured patrons of high quality sports products for up to 40 disciplines with long-term warranties.
He noted that with Decathlon products on the market, Ghanaians will take up sports as an everyday activity and try out new sports, new exercises with the introduction of a wide array of over 3,000 sports products in Ghana.
However, at the end of the tourney, the University of Ghana (UG) Basketball Team was crowned champions of this year’s UPAC Basketball Championship after beating Marshalls University College 41-23 in the final.
Accra Technical University (ATU) clinched bronze after beating the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) by 42-20.
