According to the man of God, more of such lawless groupings will spring up
In the wake of increasing calls on President Nana Akufo-Addo to end activities of vigilante groups, Chairman of National Peace Council, Most Reverend professor Emmanuel Asante has revealed that the country should brace up as more powerful militia groups will be springing up soon.
According to the man of God, more of such lawless groupings will spring up in the coming days in the name of protecting government installations at various districts when the President announces appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.
Speaking on the Gold Power Drive with Samuel Eshun Friday, Rev. Asante said the activities of the government’s Invisible Forces, Delta Force and other vigilante groups if not quelled will transit to the district assembly level when the various MMDA’s start work fully.
Rev. Emmanuel Asante’s revelation is on the back of a “Hollywood movie” when members of Delta Force, a security arm of the ruling NPP Thursday stormed Kumasi Circuit Court and freed 13 of their members who were facing charges for causing disturbances at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
The group also vandalized court properties, and almost assaulted the Judge, Mary Senkyire who sat on the case.
Some social commentators as well as the Ghana Bar Association have expressed disappointment in government’s inability to deal with such vigilante groups who continue to visit mayhem on innocent Ghanaians since the assumption of office of the Nana Addo-led government.
The Acting National Chairman of the ruling NPP, Freddie Blay is quoted to have said the lawless Invisible Forces, Delta Forces among others are not “vigilante group” but responsible men who hold executive positions in the NPP and are only protecting state properties.
However, Rev. Emmanuel Asante is convinced Ghana, will soon turn into a “Banana State” where law and order does not hold.
He warned that activities of the lawless groups could compromise the peace and stability of the country as he laments that government is not doing enough to take action against these groups.
He therefore, urged the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and be seen clacking the whip of such lawless people without fear or favour.
