Barely 24 hours after the Nkonya-Alavanyo curfew was lifted, two people have been shot dead in renewed clashes between the two feuding communities.
Although relative calm has returned to the place, the police is yet to make any arrests although they [police] say the fresh clash was incited by the Alavanyo faction.
Following the incident, the Interior Minister has reviewed the curfew hours on the two towns and their environs with immediate effect. The curfew starts from 11:00pm to 5:00pm.
The District Security Council is meeting on the development to know their next line of action.
One of the two people who were shot, died earlier today [Thursday] but the other died on the spot of the incident which occurred on Wednesday night. The names of the victims were given as Yaw Akondo and one Mawusi. A third person whose name was not given survived the incident. They were palm-wine tappers and were returning from their farm when they met the unfortunate incident.
According to some of the people who spoke with our Volta regional correspondent, Robert Abilba it was about 5 o’clock in the evening when the decease persons and one other person all from Nkonya visited their farm to tap palm wine.
Without any provocation, some unidentified people attacked them and fired at them killing one instantly with severely injuring the other two. A report was made to the police and they responded quickly by conveying the bodies to the Worawora government Hospital morgue whilst the injured were being treated.
Meanwhile both towns are calm but residents are somewhat skeptical about yet another unprovoked attack. Detailed security personnel are patrolling the area.
