President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated government’s commitment to roll out the free Senior High School policy come September 2017.
All the government needs, the President said is prayers from Ghanaians for the smooth implementation of the programme.
The free SHS policy is one of the juicy campaign promises of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the election campaign so when it won power, President Akufo-Addo announced its implementation in September.
But some sceptics led by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) questioned its viability considering Ghana’s economic challenges.
But President Akufo-Addo while addressing the Zongo community in the Ashanti region as part of his two-day tour underscored government’s resolve to roll out the policy.
He revealed that Parliament has approved the budget for the project thus the doubting Thomases must have a change of mind.
“To those who said I was deceiving “Ghanaian people and it was a mere political talk and I have no intention to carry it out and it cannot be carried out, I am hoping they will have the humility to admit that they were wrong and have been shamed”.
President Akufo-Addo also stressed government determination to transform all Zongo communities in the country.
