Two people are the grips of the Awutu Breku District police command in the Central region for posing as workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
The district commander for the area, ASP Shadrack Amfo who confirmed the incident to Starr News’ Central Regional Correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour, said Kwesi Attah, 42, and Joe Jako,22, have been visiting the homes of unsuspecting residents in the area demanding money from them as electricity bill.
The suspects hid behind announcements by ECG of intended disconnection in such areas to infiltrate their ranks to perpetrate such crimes.
They are said to have threatened to remove the meters of residents who refused to pay the accumulated bills to them.
The two have succeeded in collecting thousands of Ghana cedis from the area as bills for electricity consumed as majority of homes in the area are yet to be provided with prepaid meters.
The two have been charged with stealing and impersonation and will be arraigned before court later in the day, the commander noted.
