The Convention People’s Convention (CPP) says it has adopted an operation called ‘Invisible Polling Agents’ where they have party members monitoring proceedings at the various polling stations at the Domeabra-Obom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking to 3FM‘s Solomon Mensah, CPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Domeabra-Obom Constituency, Jones Mensah, said the party was unable to pay their members the sum of GH¢150, which the two major parties of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are offering their respective polling agents.
“Here at Domeabra-Obom, the issue of polling agents has become a hot business,” he said.
“The NDC and NPP are paying their [polling] agents GH¢150 and it has become a benchmark for the other parties.”
Mr. Mensah said some party members, who agreed to assist in monitoring events at the polling stations, will rather be sitting behind the cordoned off lane at the stations.
“They are watching what is going on from behind and you are unlikely to see them,” Jones Mensah said.
When asked why the invisible polling agents did not accept to be paid less to be agents, Mr. Mensah said time was not on the party’s side to negotiate this agreement.
The development is likely to affect the CPP as many polling stations will not have direct polling agents.
