The Supreme Court will tomorrow hear the case in which the Electoral Commission (EC) is praying it to quash the judgement of the High Court over the disqualification of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
That was made known, when Mr. Justice Gabriel Pwamang granted an application by the Commission for expeditious hearing of the case, and urged Dr. Nduom to file a statement of case ahead of the normal 14 days.
Consequently, the judge said since the lawyer for Dr. Nduom was not opposed to the motion, the court was ready to sacrifice and hear it on Friday.
He further ordered that having regard to the urgency of the case, counsel for Dr. Ndoum should file his statement of case by 12 am today, to enable the counsel for the applicant (EC) to respond by close of day.
Dr. Nduom told The Ghanaian Times after proceedings, that he would not be distracted by the ongoing litigation, adding that the PPP would continue to campaign to convince the people of Ghana to vote for him.
The EC invoked the supervisory jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, seeking to set aside the judgement of an Accra High Court which ordered it to afford Dr. Nduom an opportunity to amend his nomination forms.
Consequently, the EC filed a motion for an expeditious trial to enable the court to hear the matter early, and also order the interested party to file their statement of case ahead of time.
