The Attorney General (AG) has begun studying the case docket of the 13 members of the pro-New Patriotic Party vigilante group, Delta Force, who are standing trial for assaulting a public officer.
Police prosecutor, ACP Okyere Darko, who announced this to the KMA Circuit Court in Kumasi Thursday when the 13 accused persons made their second appearance before the court, said the AG needs time to study the case in order to offer prosecution advice.
He thus prayed the court presided over by Ms. Mary Senkyire for an adjournment of the case, which the defence counsel, Mathew Appiah, did not oppose, TV3’s William Evans-Nkum reported from the court
The case has thus been rescheduled to May 18, 2017.
Members of the Delta Force, a pro New Patriotic Party group, in March assaulted President Akufo-Addo’s newly-appointed Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Agyei who they said did not contribute to the victory of the party, hence cannot work with him.
Police later arrested 13 of them and on April 6, 2017, and were arraigned on charges of disturbances and attacking a public officer, which they denied.
The court upon hearing the facts of the case as presented by the prosecution and taking their plea, remanded them into custody.
Some dissatisfied members of the Delta Force allegedly attacked the court leading to the escape of the 13.
They, however, turned themselves in to the police less than 24 hours after their escape which caused the Police to issue a warrant for their arrest.
Later at the Kumasi High Court, a bail was secured for the 13 members.
