Following years of the battle for power, Flagbearer of the NPP Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is finally being sworn in as the fifth President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana at the country’s biggest event today, January 7, 2017.
The investiture of Akufo-Addo will be the final and complete point of power transition from the John Mahama-led NDC government to the Akufo-Addo-led government.
The event which is taking place at the Black Star square has seen the august presence of several dignitaries including some African leaders who arrived Friday to grace the memorable event. Among these leaders are Zambia President Edgar Lungu, Equatorial Guinea Vice President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Abdul Fattah el-Sisi; Presideent of Egypt as well as Ernest Bai Koroma of Seirra Leone. ‘
Over 6000 guests are expected at the event including Presidents from Africa and European countries. Cote D’Ivoire President, Alssane Outtara is the designated guest of honor for the event.
President elect will take the Presidential oath, followed by his Vice; both led by the Chief Justice after which the newly elected President will address the country in his very first speech.
Several police personnel have been deployed at vantage points at the venue and nationwide to ensure the prevalence of law and order and to maintain security across board.
