The new Council of State inaugurated by President Nana Akufo-Addo has no former Chief Justice on it as required by law.
This is because there is currently no living former Chief Justice to fill that vacuum.
This means the current Council of State has 24 instead of the required 25 members.
Inaugurating the Council on Monday, 27 February, Nana Akufo-Addo said he could not appoint a former Chief Justice onto the presidential advisory body because there was currently none to appoint.
Current Chief Justice Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood is due to retire in May this year. She would then fit the role but the president solely reserves the prerogative of appointing her onto the council.
