A 23-year old coconut Seller, David Apedo, was on Wednesday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for possessing an unserviced locally manufactured pistol, hammer and a screw driver.
David pleaded not guilty to the charge but was remanded by the court to reappear on November 23.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu said the complainants are members of the Olympic Stadium Neighbourhood Watchdog while the accused is a coconut seller residing at Mayera near Pokuase.
He said on November 2, at about 0150 hours, during their usual patrols in the area, the complainant chanced on the accused around Olympic Sports Stadium at Amasaman and confronted him.
He said they suspected he was a thief and subjected him to body search. A cutlass and screw driver was found in a sports bag he was carrying at his back.
The prosecution said further search on his body led to the discovery of the unserviced locally manufactured pistol concealed in the pocket of a jacket he was wearing.
He was arrested and handed over to the Police. He sustained some injuries in the course of the arrest and was sent to the Amasaman Government Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Police Chief Inspector Adu said David admitted the offence during interrogations and after investigations, charged with the offence.
