National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it’s an insult for anyone to claim that President John Mahama is distributing outboard motors in fishing communities in exchange for votes.
According to Kofi Adams, such comments portray the fishermen as unintelligent people who are easily influenced by politicians.
Kofi Adams was reacting to allegations of voting buying levelled against the President by anti-corruption group, Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII).
President Mahama began his campaign tour of the Western Region with a gleeful distribution of outboard motors to some fisher folks.
At a durbar with the fishermen in Sekondi, the President did not miss the opportunity to distribute the outboard motors to help improve their working conditions.
This move by President Mahama, GII maintained amounts to vote buying and an abuse of incumbency.
But Kofi Adams on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday said the distribution of the outboard motors is part of government’s intervention to boost the fisheries sector.
He noted that since they were purchased with state funds, there was nothing wrong with President Mahama distributing them.
The NDC National Organizer added that government is committed to improving the economy in the fishing communities.
Kofi Adams said such unfortunate comments from civil society groups are borne out of malice just to make the Mahama-led government unpopular.
