The Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), has said it will invite the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Police Service to investigate the matter in which the personal details of its running mate contained in the Presidential nomination forms got missing at the Electoral Commission’s office.
According to the party’s Flag bearer Dr Lartey, the police will be invited to do the job if the EC is unable to find the lost forms by close of Tuesday, as the party claims it presented the full document to the electoral management body.
The Electoral Commission (EC) by close of nominations on Monday disqualified 12 Presidential candidates from contesting the upcoming December 7, polls for various reasons.
The EC Boss, Charlotte Osei in turning down the GCPP Presidential candidate cited reasons including the unavailability of the personal records of the Vice Presidential candidate.
“The Commission is unable to accept Dr. Lartey’s nomination because the number of subscribers to his forms did not meet the requirements of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94. The details are as follows:
Pages 18 – 22 do not contain the signatures of subscribers as required by Law
Pages 14 – 17: Subscriptions are undated
The Personal records of the Vice Presidential candidate have not been provided.
One subscriber – Amadu Babia Latifah. With Voter ID number 3357006984 & Polling station K100401 (page 110) also supported the nomination of another candidate. This disqualifies both candidates endorsed by the said voter,” Mrs Osei noted.
However speaking to Kasapa News, Dr Henry Lartey rather blamed the EC for being careless and misplacing their document.
“I’m so disappointed at the EC for misplacing our documents, we filed a completed form to their office. They should look for it immediately and include us in the 2016 election. How can they say they can’t find my personal details and that of my running mate. They didn’t do their work well. I can’t stay aloof, we’ll call on the police to investigate who took our documents from the EC’s office, it is not right that our document which is in the possession of the EC will get missing and they will blame us for that, how can they do that? We would not allow for the GCPP to be sabotaged.”
He added: “We will not allow this matter to rest if our document is not found, surely we’ll go to court to seek redress as we can’t be disqualified from this race.”
