Chiefs in the Chereponi District have rubbished reports linking them to a preferred candidate for the position of District Chief Executive for the area.
The chiefs describe as ‘fabricated lies’ a report that said 14 chiefs in the district had written a letter to the President, nominating one Abdul-Razak Tahidu as the DCE for Chereponi. The chiefs say the publication is a deliberate set-up ‘orchestrated for political expediency’ adding that the report must be treated with the contempt it deserves.
Read below the full statement by the chiefs of Chereponi on the appointment of a District Chief Executive for the area.
We the respected chiefs in the Chereponi District attention has been drawn to a publication in the print media on February 21, 2017 which stated that 14 chiefs from the district have written a letter to H. E., the President, Nana Adu-Dankwa Akuffo Addo to nominate one Abdul-Razak Tahidu as DCE for Chereponi. The Chiefs in the district wish to categorically, and without any shred of doubt state that the said publication linking chiefs to an attempt to influence the selection of a DCE for Chereponi is fabricated and outright lies, orchestrated for political expediency and must be treated with the contempt it deserves. No chief in Chereponi has endorsed, or openly expressed their support for any candidate. It is unfortunate and a mark of desperation on the part of the author.
As traditional leaders, we know our constitutional duties. We respect the process of selecting DCEs and will never stand in the way of due diligence. We want to assure the President and the NPP party hierarchy that we have confidence in the process of nominating DCEs and we trust that the President of the republic will nominate for Chereponi the most qualified, experienced and trust worthy person to lead the development agenda of the district.
In the interest of peace, tranquility and preservation of the dignity and honour of Chiefs in the district as well as despair any doubt in the minds of other contestants for the DCE position in Chereponi and all persons in the district, we demand an immediate retraction and withdrawal of the publication and to offer unqualified apology to all chiefs in the Chereponi district.
