The Member of Parliament (MP) for Suhum in the Eastern Region, Fredrick Opare Ansah, has accused the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, of causing the violent attacks on New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the area.
According to the MP, the chief of staff who hails from Suhum, has conspired with the National Security and the Municipal Chief Executive, Margaret Ansei aka Magoo – who is the NDC parliamentary candidate – to deploy thugs to attack, intimidate and cause unnecessary tension in the constituency as part of their phantom ‘agenda 50-50’ project.
The supposed NDC thugs have been on rampage, attacking NPP members in the area, but the police have failed to cause their arrest.
Mr Opare Ansah, affectionately called Suhum Mugabe, speaking to the media at the constituency party office to react to the attacks on the NPP Loyal Ladies on Tuesday, indicated that the NDC had planned to cause violence in the constituency during and after the December 7 polls, claiming he has evidence to back his assertion.
The young ladies had gone for a house-to-house campaign and just as they were about wrapping up their activities, thugs from nowhere surrounded them, demanding to know which of them had called the Municipal Chief Executive names.
In the process, some of them were attacked and injured. The ladies reportedly rushed to the chief’s palace where a meeting was being held towards the celebration of the town’s Odwira festival, for protection; but the thugs were said to have carried their dastardly act to the palace.
Mr Opare Ansah said that after the hoodlums had attacked the NPP Loyal Ladies, the NDC parliamentary candidate went on air to defend the violent act by stating that the ladies were insulting her and that’s why they were manhandled.
“I won’t incite anybody to cause violence, but the NDC should remember that there are about 60,000 voters in the constituency. If care is not taken and the youth rise up to retaliate, nobody should blame me,” the Suhum MP warned.
He noted that since such violence attacks started, the police had failed to cause the arrest of any of the miscreants, although they are well known in the constituency.
