The Chief Justice, Justice Georgina Wood has called for the use of the legal systems and processes for peaceful resolution of election related disputes to ensure peace.
Her Ladyship who was speaking at the launch of 3rd edition of the manual on election adjudication in Ghana, said disputes were inevitable in the electoral process.
“Disputes remain an inevitable feature of electoral process regardless of best efforts at perfecting the electoral process.
“The potentials of legal disputes arising before, during or after the elections are real. When they do occur, with the best of intentions, we expect that we resort to the law courts for amicable resolution”.
“Aggrieved parties must never resort to violence. They must also not employ unlawful or unconstitutional approaches that threaten our peace or jeopardize our democratic journey which has become an admiration worldwide especially on the African continent”.
The eleven-chapter Election Adjudication Manual contains applicable legislation on election adjudication and some selected cases including those delivered by the Supreme Court in 2014 and 2016.
