ADONTENHENE of Assin Adiembra in the Central Region, Nana Minta Ebu II, is in trouble for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old class five pupil (name withheld) in the area.
The chief who is believed to be in his fifties (50s) took advantage of a fufu (local delicacy) pounding machine he operates in the area to commit the crime.
Narrating the incident to the media, Benkumhene of the community, Nana Effisah Keteko I, stated that the victim’s mother who is a chop bar operator sent the young girl to get her fufu pounded at the suspect’s place.
He said Nana MintaEbu II upon realising the little girl was not accompanied by anyone lured her into his room and forcibly had sex with her.
He later promised to give her Gh₵100 if she kept the act as a secret, Benkumhene narrated.
According to the Benkumhene, in the process of the act, the Nana MintaEbu II gagged the victim with his hand while he committed the crime to prevent her from shouting for help.
Nana Effisah Keteko I added that the victim after realising that Nana Minta Ebu II was not going to give her the money he promised to spill the beans.
Nana Minta Ebu II, he said, was later summoned and interrogated.
And it was during the interrogation that Nana Effisah Keteko I said the suspect admitted to the crime before the family of the girl and some elders of the town.
He said the suspect subsequently agreed to compensate the victim with Gh₵1,500.
Meanwhile, the youth in the area have threatened to demonstrate against the chiefs and elders of the community for impregnating young girls and putting the blame on them [the youth].
The youth in this regard have sworn to disrespect all chiefs in the area if they continue to recognise the suspect as one of them “because of the embarrassment he has caused us.”
The chiefs on their part have promised the youth to destool Nana Minta Ebu II so as calm can return to the community.
