Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has called on the Supreme Court to cite the Electoral Commission chairperson for contempt and jail her.
Having been an ardent critic of the commission in recent times, the lecturer submitted that Mrs Charlotte Osei has on countless acted with impunity in carrying out directives of the Supreme Court.
Speaking to Ofori Ayim on Atinka FM’s political show “Simpieso” Tuesday , Amoako Baah indicated that the Evans Nimako and Abu Ramadan case of deleting 56,000 NHIS registrants as well as PPP’s disqualification cases attest to the fact the EC boss acts with impunity.
In Ramada’s case Mrs. Charlotte Osei refused to comply by the directives of the Supreme Court until the plaintiff went back to court and in this regard she needs to be taught a lesson, Amoako Baah added.
The 1992 Republican Constitution makes the Electoral Commission an independent body that cannot be controlled by the Executive or Judiciary; this he agrees but that notwithstanding, he mentioned that being independent does not mean one is sovereign.
“It does not mean she operates under no authority and can do whatever pleases her,” he added.
