Chaos In Volta Biakoye Over DCE Race

DISQUALIFIED Women Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Dome Kwabenya constituency, Mrs. Comfort Atta, who was removed from that position over alleged fraud and forgery of Electoral Commission documents, is contesting the DCE position in Biakoye District of the Volta Region.

The move by Mrs. Atta has incurred the displeasure of many party members, executives and supporters in the Biokoye district.

A High Court in February 2010 upheld an application filed against Comfort Atta by party executives in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency and ordered for her removal from office when it was established that she deceived EC officials with documents she forged claiming she was a transferred voter in 2008 into the constituency.

Mrs. Atta, whose conduct in that executive election, created division and disaffection within the party front in that constituency, is reported to have brought division into the party in the Boakoye district ever since she returned to the area.

Party executives believe that her coming to the area was to continuously divide the rank-and-file of the party.

According to information gathered from the Biakoye district, party executives were strongly opposed to a person of such calibre to assume the position of a DCE.

They believe that Mrs. Atta is not a member of the NPP in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency.

Her decision to contest the Dome Kwabenya executive election was greeted with a heavy challenge.

It, however, emerged that during vetting, the then regional officer in charge upheld the position taken by party executives that she was not a voter and hence could not contest such position in the party.

When Today contacted Mrs. Atta on Saturday, February 25, 2017 to respond to the issue, she simply said: “my brother, l am in church so let us talk on this issue on another date.”

When this reporter asked her whether the next day which was yesterday (Sunday) will be convenient for her to react to the issue, Mrs. Atta said that Sunday too was another church service day.

“I mean that l cannot talk to you on the issue within this weekend so let us find another date to talk about this issue,” she said and hanged up.
