Ashanti Regional customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has impounded six luxury vehicles.
The cars were intercepted during the funeral of a former Member of Parliament’s (MP) mother’s funeral in Kumasi on Saturday.
The vehicles include one Anacura, one Range rover, two Lexus, one Opel Astra sprayed as taxi and one Benz.
The Ashanti regional commander of Customs, ACP Kwasi Ahiakpor told Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote Fumador the owners of the vehicles evaded duties adding that the cars have been packed in the yard of the service pending investigations.
He explained that some of the car owners pleaded with him to assist them go through the duty process.
‘No duty has been paid whatsoever on the Range rover, and responsible Ghanaians are driving that on the road. When you intercept them, they say you are too difficult. But thank God, after chit chatting, the truth came out that the cars were uncustomed. Can you help us pay the duty. Look at that Lexus, they haven’t paid taxes, that has a Ghanaian registration number 2015 but the other lexus, not a pesewa has been paid, the benz car, and Anacura all these have not been paid,’ he bemoaned.
