Resorting to surveillance cameras can unravel the sequence of events that resulted in clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and end the blame game by the two sides, David Agbey, a security analyst, has suggested.
On Sunday November 13, there were clashes between the supporters of the two parties who were embarking on simultaneous health walks in front of the Nima residence of the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. There were a few gun shots during the confrontation. Both parties have accused each other of masterminding the violence.
For instance, Nana Akomea, NPP Director of Communications, issued a statement accusing NDC executives of initiating the violence.
On the other hand, Kofi Adams, National Organiser of the NDC, blamed Mr Akufo-Addo for the cause of the clash.
He told Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM, that: “What Nana Addo knows is all-die-be-die. His own party executives, he chased them out with machetes and guns. Let us tell Nana Addo that he can’t be president through violence.”
“President Mahama is governing the country. He needs a peaceful Ghana and so the NDC will not attempt to cause violence in Ghana.”
Mr Agbey said: “I strongly believe that there will be security cameras in Nana Akufo-Adddo’s house. If nobody had tampered with those security cameras there, then the videos would help the investigations by unravelling the true cause of the mayhem.”
“CCTV cameras were manufactured following rising crime across the world. The manufacturers produced them to help fight crime and also to help in identification and so the security cameras in Nana Addo’s house can capture all the scenes that took place on Sunday and help unravel the miscreants behind the mayhem. The CCTV cameras are not there for fun, they are there for security reasons. They can help the police to bring out the miscreants.”
