A campaign vehicle of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Tema West, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah knocked and killed an 18-year-old.
Another person also sustained injuries in the accident which happened around 11:00 pm on Friday, 26th August, 2016.
According to eye witnesses, the 4×4 Sportage pick-up with registration number, GT 1561-16 which is one of the campaign cars of the NPP Parliamentary Candidate veered off the road and crashed into the two who were walking by the roadside at Sakumono Village.
Believe Sara, 21 sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Sakomono Hospital but died while Isaac Arkoh, the other person sustained minor injuries.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue.
Communications Director of the Carlos Ahenkora Campaign Team, Kwasi Poku, confirmed the accident to Adom News.
According to him, the driver lost control because he had a flat tyre while driving.
“Yes it’s true the accident did happen and we are cooperating with the police, the driver has been detained and we are law abiding people we are not trying to temper with investigations,” he said.
He however blamed the Sakumono Hospital for the death of the girl as the hospital failed to attend to her on time with the excuse that it lacked oxygen.
“Let’s put on record, Ghana we are in trouble, the Sakumono Hospital, when we got to the hospital the girl was not dead, for like 30 minutes to an hour they couldn’t attend to the girl because they said they had no oxygen,” he said.
He described the accident as unfortunate and said the campaign team was sympathisinzing with the family of the deceased.
