A woman has been arrested at Ghana’s Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in the Central Region when she attempted to smuggle dried leaves suspected to be Indian to an inmate.
The 36-year-old Felicia Asamoah from Kumasi had craftily concealed the substances in a pair of slippers popularly referred to as ‘baba agye pay,’ which she attempted to deliver to an inmate serving 65 years in hard larbour. Felicia was arrested by officials of the Prison Wednesday, and has been handed over to the Elmina Police for investigations and possible prosecution, the Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prison Service, ASP Daniel Machator, told 3News.Security officers at the Prison gate cut open the slippers when Felicia showed up at about 12 noon, and found quantities of the substance craftily embedded in them.
Upon interrogation, she claims the pair of slippers containing the consignment was given to her by her husband, George Kumah, who is a brother to the inmate, Kwame Adu.
