Assembly and Unit Committee members within the Bosomtwe district in the Ashanti Region have endorsed the candidature of flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, ahead of the December 7 elections.
The members also lauded Mr Akufo-Addo’s promise to provide $1million to each of the 275 constituencies should he win the polls, describing it as timely and well-thought out since the policy would in the long run alleviate poverty not only in the constituencies but also in Ghana as a whole.
Addressing a press conference at Feyiase, the leader of the assembly members, Joseph Asante, said government had reneged on its promise to address challenges facing assembly members across the 216 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs), a situation which had slowed development of their electoral areas.
“We want to single out the $1million-1-constituency policy of the NPP and state unequivocally that the policy is one of the best promised policies among all the proposed policies and programmes by all political parties in their manifestos for the 2016 elections,” he stated.
“As concerned Assembly and Unit Committee members who have been struggling with our chiefs, queen mothers and other relevant stakeholders to get resources for development, especially for the promise of the basic social amenities, we see this policy as more or less a common fund for assembly members and unit committee members. It has the potential to reduce poverty and improve the wellbeing of the electorate,” Mr Asante added.
“We wish to declare our unflinching support for the policy and Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP and urge all our electorate to vote massively for Nana Akufo-Addo.”
