The bomb discovered within the precincts of the Deputy Ashanti regional minister, Andy Osei Okrah, on Tuesday was thrown there by some unknown persons who made their getaway on a motorbike, Ashanti regional Minister Alexander Ackon has said.
Asked if he suspected foul play, Mr Ackon said: “Obviously you don’t need a conclusion to say that there’s huge foul play just that you don’t want me to go into the political domain because that is not where we are looking immediately at. But the reality of the situation is that it has happened,” he said on Tuesday.
According to Adehye FM’s reporter Mununkum Owoahene Addai, personnel of the anti-terrorism unit of the Ashanti regional police command are still within the Deputy Minister’s house and scouting the area to ensure that all explosives, if any, within his abode are defused.
The discovery of the explosive has compelled the Regional Security Council to hold an emergency meeting.
Mr Ackon told Accra-based Joy FM that the deputy minister and his family are safe from harm’s way adding that the whole area has been cordoned off while bomb experts dealt with the situation.
