The Director of Election at Center for African Democratic Affairs (CADA), Kwame Damoah Agyemang has argued that the failure of the Electoral Commissioner (EC), Charlotte Osei to heed advice from other members of the commission is the cause of the woes of the commission.
The election regulatory body has in recent times been in the news for negative reasons.
Latest among the many negative reports about the commission is the numerous court cases which it has been saddled with, especially from presidential hopefuls who were disqualified by the commission.
Many have argued that this could lead to a postponement of the December polls which is less than 40 days away.
All these problems, Kwame Damoah Agyemang speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ said are occurring as a result of the failure of the head of the commission to listen to good counsel.
According to the CADA Director, who is also a former Chief Director at the Commission, Charlotte Osei upon assumption of office sacked most of the experienced hands who could have helped them navigate the curves in these trying times.
“The commission has lost its institutional memory because the EC Boss on assumption of office took drastic decisions and embarked on rebranding, she also asked that all persons at the commission who were due for retirement to apply for retirement…now that you have sacked the experienced ones, who and who will you reason with…,?” he queried.
He argued that the posture of the commission, especially dragging the PPP back to the Supreme Court, tells the posture of the person leading the commission.
He therefore urged Madam Charlotte Osei and the commissioners to take a somber position that would benefit all.
