Ghana’s opening day opponents at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Uganda, have been crowned the best national team on the continent.
The Cranes lost only one competitive game in 2016, making them one of the in-form sides on the continent.
They were crowned at the CAF Awards held in Lagos on Thursday, January 5 to award the best on the continent in 2016.
The year under review saw the East African side break a 35-year-old jinx by qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
Uganda are in the same group with Ghana in the 2018 World Cup qualifying and were drawn in the same group for the upcoming tournament in Gabon.
They will open Group D at Port-Gentil.
The Stars failed to score against the Cranes in the first leg of the 2018 World Cup qualifier, making the East Africans one of the sides not beaten by the Stars in the past 10 years.
Cranes’ goalkeeper Dennis Onyango was named Africa’s Best Player plying his trade on the continent, at the awards ceremony. He helped Mamelodi Sundowns to the 2016 CAF Champions League title.
