President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday exhorted Christians to make their belief in Christ, impact on their daily lives as citizens to place the country on the pedestal of development.
“We are a religious people. The Ghanaian people are a religious people and religion does not mean just prayer and worship. It is also how you behave and act in your everyday life as a citizen,” he said when addressing the opening of the annual Global Ministers and Wives Conference 2017, of the Church of Pentecost at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.
President Akufo-Addo said: “What we have to do is to make sure that the believes that we have impact on us in our everyday life. If we do just that, I know our country, our societies and our nation will all be in a better place than we are now.”
Quoting a verse in the Bible which states: “Not everyone who says to me, Lord Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven except he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven,” the President said: “It is not just the invocation of the name of God but how you live and act that points to your way of salvation.”
He said what Christ meant in that biblical verse was that it wasn’t just the invocation of His name but how one lived and acted that pointed the way to salvation.
He admonished Christians to ponder on the passage and to make it their creed, purpose and goal to live as good citizens.
President Akufo-Addo said his administration had inherited the challenge of managing the economy, developing education and health, and creating employment for the youth.
“These are challenges that we can, and will overcome.”
He thanked Christian religious leaders across the country for the fervent prayers that were said for him and… the New Patriotic Party and for the support given him that enabled him clenched victory in the December 2016 Elections
Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, prayed for the President and his appointees and wished them well.
