MENTORING Women Ghana, a non-governmental organisation, has called on Ghanaian women and emerging young ladies to rise up and “be bold in order to effect changes in their lives.”
The 2016 vice presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and founder of Mentoring Women Ghana, Ms. Brigitte Dzogbenuku, an alumni of the Fortune/U. S. State Department Global Women’s Mentoring Partnership made the call ahead of the organisation’s annual walk which coincides with the International Women’s Day today, Wednesday March 8, 2017.
According to her, young girls need older people who are well-established and experienced to guide and tame them in choosing right careers, handling of relationship issues and helping them to overcome general difficulties faced by women of all ages across the world.
She said she developed interest in issues of entrepreneurship, self-grooming and development with emphasis on females of ages between 17 to 25 years.
“These young girls are paired with mentors from diverse professional fields and varying ages to enable them network, discuss common issues of interest and receive advice on several issues so as to pave the way for other young girls who also need some form of mentorship,” she said.
She explained that young girls who register and are signed on to the programme are paired with their mentors based on their interests, goals and aspirations and aims.
According to her, while some mentors take on one or two mentees, others due to the flexibility of their time and their capabilities are able to take on up to about six mentees whom they can have adequate time for, and help during the programme on daily basis.
Madam Dzogbenuku said, “the major challenge facing the organisation is funding.0”
She noted that because the programmes are organised on free basis, lots of funds were needed to keep the project running.
She however, said with support from the 2016 presidential candidate of the PPP, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, and Groupe Nduom (GN), including other companies, her outfit was able to overcome its financial difficulties.
Activities for this year’s celebration, she said, include health walk and workshop.
