The running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is prepared to meet the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service if he is invited.
A deputy Communications Director of the NPP Anthony Abayifa Karbo on Abusua Nkomo, revealed that he (Dr. Bawumia) is not worried that his political opponents are giving an issue a criminal twist just to taint is hard won reputation.
“Dr. Bawumia is prepared to meet the CID. If he is called even in Walewale, he will present himself to the police. The man is a law abiding citizen and speaks the truth at all times so why must he run away from the police”, he quizzed.
He is of the view that the Electoral Commission (EC) should be apologizing to Dr. Bawumia after its own report vindicated him and not to allow the CID jump into an issue which will take them nowhere.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, early this week indicated that it has started investigating reports Dr. Bawumia, flouted electoral laws during the voters’ register exhibition exercise.
Some members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) who lodged a complaint with the Walewale District Police, alleged that Dr Bawumia enticed two electoral officers at Kperiga Presby JHS ‘A’ polling station in Walewale constituency in the Northern Region with a sum of GH¢10, 000, for him to be verified in his home.
The two officials were subsequently dismissed by the EC even before any investigation was carried out.
