Some youth of the New Patriotic Party in Bawku Central in the Upper East Region say they are unhappy that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not appoint any of his ministers from the constituency.
At a news conference on Saturday, the group numbering about 200, said despite the constituency’s loyalty to the Busia-Dombo tradition, none of the active and competent members of the party in the constituency was appointed a minister or deputy minister.
Bawku Central is one of the strongholds of the NPP in the Upper East and the party receives big endorsement every election year. The constituency has been identified as one of the swing constituencies in the region in the parliamentary elections, which is mostly between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress. In view of this the youth in the constituency want a representation in the Akufo-Addo government.
Meanwhile, on the appointment of a municipal chief executive, the group mentioned two people in the constituency, Abubakar Iddrisu Bawa and Amadu Moqtar, who they argued are well qualified for the job, hence urged the president to consider one of them for that position.
