The deplorable state of roads in Onwe, Nkruakan, Amissah-Mpesiem Electoral Area in Upper Denkyira East in the Central Region has been blamed for the death of eight (8) pregnant women.
Assembly Woman for the area, Nana Yaa Afratimah Peprah who made the claim while speaking to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said at least four expectant mothers lost their pregnancies after using roads linking the villages to the only hospital in the area.
“Roads in our town are very bad. Just last week we lost 8 pregnant women because of our poor roads. We are calling on government to intervene because we cannot continue losing our loved ones” she added.
According to her, bad roads in the area have increased maternal mortality, a situation she describes as very worrying.
Ms. Afratimah said politicians always tour the region to campaign and pledge to reconstruct the roads but fail to fulifil their promises.
They have therefore vowed not to vote in this year’s election if their roads are not fixed.
“We will not vote and will not want to see any face of these politicians who only come here to lie to us if they refuse to fix our roads for us” she said.
