A suspect, believed to be in his early thirties, has abandoned a baby boy in a bus when the Accra Highway Police team conducted a search on a bus at the Ashaiman-Ho passengers’ checkpoint.
PRO of Akusey District Police, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, in an interview with Adom News said the highway police stopped the bus which was travelling from Ashaiman to Ho and during interrogations; they realized the man with the baby could not be the father of the baby.
The man on sight at the police team bolted leaving the baby on board with a bag containing sharp knives and a mobile phone.
The items found with the baby deepened police suspicion that the baby was going to be used for rituals.
The police arrested the suspect after a manhunt and is now looking for the mother of the baby.
ASP Tetteh appealed to all parents of Ashaiman, Ho and its environs to help them locate the mother of the baby to also assist in investigations.
“The suspect is in his early thirties. He could not give any tangible reason. When he got down he took to his heels. There was a very sharp knife. We suspected he was taking the child to the slaughter…”
“I plead with the public to spread the information to effect immediate collection of the baby before other processes sets in place…” he noted.
