The Omanhene of Kukuom in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Kwaku Aterkyi II has declared support for the opposition New Patriot Party’s 1-district 1-factory policy.
According to him, the policy if implemented will reduce the high levels of unemployment in the country as well as boost local economies.
The NPP led by flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo ahead of this year’s election has promised to implement a policy that will see every district in the country have a local factory to promote local businesses as well as create jobs.
Some critics of the party have said that the party will not be able to implement the policy if voted into power considering the amount of money it may require.
But Nana Kwaku Aterkyi II, says such a policy will improve the lives of beneficiary communities.
While addressing a gathering the gathering at a courtesy call paid on him by the NPP flagbearer at his palace in the Brong Ahafo region, he said, “in politics, everyone who wants to be president has one vision. We have heard what he have to say, but the one that many people are happy about is the 1-district 1-factory policy. Anyone who has traveled outside Ghana would testify that for any nation to progress, its manufacturing and production base must thrive.”
The Chief said, considering the resources in the country, implementing the policy would improve the country’s economic status and particularly deal with the unemployment.
“When we talk about factories, we have large scale, medium scale and small scale. We have abundant raw material base here in Ghana…This should make it easy for us in Ghana to produce our own things. The 1-dsitrict, 1-factory policy is a laudable initiative. It will solve the unemployment crisis in the country,” he said.
The New Patriotic Party flagbearer is currently on a four-day tour of the Brong Ahafo region where he is hoping to solidify his party’s influence over the people for the upcoming polls.
